Gall bladder cancers and Bile duct cancers are seen in elderly, although it can occur at any age. The usual symptoms are vague, with abdominal pain, loss of appetite, jaundice, itching, fever etc
In-order to establish the diagnosis, doctor might ask for blood tests and imaging, following which the cancer would be staged. Subsequently, the further options of treatment – like surgical or chemotherapy would be decided.
Gall bladder and Bile duct cancers can be dealt with surgery if detected early. If there is advanced disease, options of biliary stenting by ERCP or PTBD with chemotherapy can be tried.
Once patient is operated, and they receive further treatment, patients need to be under surveillance regularly to see for any evidence of recurrence.
